What's Happening in Grand Rapids: July 2021
It's official: live events are back in West Michigan! With all pandemic restrictions fully lifting on June 22nd, everything is now open and summer fun like concerts and events are being quickly rescheduled over the upcoming months. Here, Holiday Inn Grand Rapids Downtown will discuss some of our favorite things happening this month in July: all within walking or driving distance from the hotel!
Downtown Fireworks 🎆 (July 3rd)
Start July off with a BANG! After taking a year off during the COVID crisis, the skies of Grand Rapids will light up again with firework festivities on July 3rd at 6 p.m. at Ah-Nab-Awen Park downtown. The event will include food vendors and exhibits, continuing many of the traditions that people have come to expect. Easily walk from your room at The Holiday Inn Grand Rapids Downtown with the family to celebrate independence day, and enjoy this spectacular free show. Grand Rapids Running Tours (July 5th)
Explore Grand Rapids, while also getting fit! July and August mean more FREE walking tours, courtesy of Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. Just show up, no registration necessary! Tours are 75 minutes, will study the architecture of downtown in four parts and the Grand River and its edges in two parts. Meet up with your tour guide, Caroline, in front of the Grand Rapids Art Museum, which is located conveniently across the street from The Holiday Inn Grand Rapids Downtown! Old Dominion (July 14th)
It's official: live music is back in Grand Rapids! Old Dominion, an American five-member country music band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, is teaming up with American Idol alumn Scotty McCreery to bring crowds the latest in country-pop at Belknap Park. This family-friendly concert marks one of the first major live concerts in West Michigan since the beginning of the pandemic. After enjoying the show, finish off your night by grabbing craft cocktails and delicious burgers at Burger Theory! Get your tickets to see Old Dominion below:
Tim Allen at Devos Performance Center (July 17th)
Michigan -native Tim Allen is back in his home state touring with his comedic act on Saturday, July 16th at Devos Performance Hall. Tim Allen is the star of the hit sitcom “Last M/.an Standing” which was revived by the FOX network for its 7th season after airing for six seasons on ABC. Allen reprised his role as Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s Oscar-winning “Toy Story 4” with Tom Hanks where the film opened #1 at the box office on June 21, 2019 and has grossed over $1 billion worldwide. Easily walk to the show from the Holiday Inn, conveniently located on Pearl Street in Downtown Grand Rapids.
Michigan's BIG BBQ Festival (July 23rd)
Is there anything more midwestern than BBQ and cornhole? Michigan's Big BBQ Festival is the state's first all BBQ weekend fully sanctioned with a BBQ contest, wing eating competition, cornhole, axe throwing, live bands and more! If you think you have what it takes to enter your BBQ into one of the most prestigious competitions in the country, complete the entry form to have your best featured at the festival. Dinner Detective Grand Rapids (July 24th)
America’s largest interactive comedy murder mystery dinner theatre show is now playing! Solve a hilarious mystery while you feast on a fantastic dinner. Just beware! The culprit is hiding in plain sight somewhere in the room, and you may find yourself as a Prime Suspect before you know it. Aside from the monthly dinners "The Dinner Detective" also offers private shows and events for special occasions!
