Safety Measures & Precautions

The health and safety of our associates and guests is a top priority. As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we are actively monitoring guidance provided by public health officials, and we want to assure our visitors that additional sanitary measures are in place to maintain a healthy environment and limit the spread of germs. In addition to our regular and very thorough cleaning procedures, we are currently taking extra precautions, including:

  • Housekeeping is using EcoLab Peroxide Cleaner and Disinfectant Spray on all surfaces that guests or employees might touch in common areas, including the front desk, guest elevators, lobby restrooms, stairwell handrails and more.
  • Inside guest rooms, we are using EcoLab Peroxide Cleaner and Disinfectant Spray and always change to new, clean rags between rooms.
  • All high touch surfaces are being cleaned and disinfected several times throughout the day in guest corridors.
  • Guest check-in reception area is being cleaned every 30 minutes including all counters, pens, phones, and PIN pads.

What To Do At World of Winter in Grand Rapids

The annual World of Winter extravaganza is coming to Grand Rapids! Now is your chance to explore all of the great events and attractions being featured. World of Winter will be more exciting and engaging than ever before, with many fantastical events.

Art Installations

We’re proud to present many exciting and groundbreaking art installations, such as Hybycozo’s and Grand Illuminations. These cutting-edge installations are made using  physical attractions, light and shadow shows, wowing audiences of all ages. These shows take advantage of perception like few before them, delighting crowds with displays of skill and bravado. Grand Illuminations uses more than ten thousand lights to put on a radiant show of every color and feeling. In addition to these installations, Color the Skyline will have ten-foot-tall inflatable tube men, all colored differently and dancing on buildings all over the city.

Dance in the Annex

Performing near Hybocozo’s and their sculptures is the superbly talented group Dance in the Annex. These performers will be putting on a show entitled “Evolutions on a Theme” which features five transitions and four solos. The theme is movement, which will be explored using sights and sounds. Watch as the troupe plays with light and shadow and incorporates sculpture into their routine. Alongside the troupe will be the dynamic sounds of Pink Sky, a group featured right here in Grand Rapids.

Pop-Up Performer Nights

Throughout World of Winter, performers and musicians will be popping up, delighting guests with musical performances the whole family can enjoy. There’s no telling who you’ll see next or what style of tunes they’ll bring to enlighten your soul and give your ears a true show. These performers will be popping up nearly every day from January 15th to February 26th. You can find many of these performers by exploring the downtown area on your way to our many events.

Walking Tours

If your family decides to go for a brisk walk around the city, World of Winter can accommodate you. There will be multiple themed walking tours each day of the event, including  Miles of Murals, The Chilly Challenge and Black History Walking Tours. All of these tours will be free and feature different sites for the family to explore. Miles of Murals explores intriguing art installations from the city’s most prominent muralists. These murals are everywhere, on walls all over the city and beyond, and you’ll get to explore them while listening to a guide who will discuss the context and significance of each piece. The Black History Walking Tour will examine the life of black citizens of Grand Rapids from 1826 until the present. Listen to amazing stories an a complex narrative as you travel through the city.

Outdoor Ice Games

For something we know the younger ones will like, join downtown Grand Rapids on January 22nd for a day of fun in the sun. Set up specially for World of Winter, your kids can enjoy playing a multitude of physical games such as foosball, cornhole, and plinko. We’ll also have chess boards set up for great games of checkers and chess. Bring your mask and practice social distancing as you partake in these exciting and timeless games.

The Singing Tree and Impulse on Monroe

If you’re looking for a more interactive experience, look no further than The Singing Tree. This event will take place in Canal Park during the entirety of World of Winter. The Singing Tree is a magical experience which transforms mundane, everyday displays into interactive experiences. Participants clap, yell, and sing their way into an unforgettable winter experience. For more interaction fun, travel down to 555 Monroe for “Impulse on Monroe” an interactive art installation made up of fifteen seesaws. These seesaws light up the sky and bathe your ears in pleasant sounds when put into motion by people.
