Grand Rapids is one of the most action-packed places during winter. It hosts several events and activities that keep you entertained throughout the cold January winter. You can enjoy many beautiful things in Grand Rapids in the first month of the year. Here are some events you should never miss in January. 

Grand Rapids Griffins Game

If you want a fun-filled entertainment start to your year, the Grand Griffins game is the place for you. They'll be hosting the Texas Stars at the Van Andel Arena on 6th January at 7 p.m. You can buy your ticket here for only $36 and set yourself up for a promotion of $2 beers and $2 hot dogs.

 

World of Winter Festival 6th January)

The WoW festival will commence on January 6th. As it's one of the top 10 US winter festivals, you'll enjoy its free activities that transform downtown Grand Rapids into a winter wonderland.

Activities will include;

  • Outdoor art- This will include 20+ art installations, such as the House of Cards at Calder Plaza and Angels of Freedom at the Blue Ridge.
  • Outdoor entertainment- Includes Circus Wonderland, Snow Moon Snow Snake Competition, and DJ concerts. 
  • Outdoor dining includes beer, noodlefests, and quick bites from participating breweries, restaurants, and cocktail bars.

Winter Sports

If you're an outdoor person, Grand Rapids has covered you with many activities throughout January. They include;

  • Ice fishing- The favorite spot for ice fishing is Reeds Lake. However, there are plenty of options, such as Long Lake, Camp Lake, and Cranberry Lake. You should ensure that you have your fishing license and that the ice meets safety standards before setting up your fishing spot.
  • Fat tire biking- As it's evident that biking isn't only for summer, you can cycle your fat tire bike from one of five trials about 45 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids.
  • Cross-Country Skiing- There are several trials to choose from if you're a cross-country skier, but the one that stands out is Millennium Park, five minutes from downtown Grand Rapids. It offers beautiful nature views as its spans 18 miles.

Live Concerts

As you expect a cold January winter in Grand Rapids, you can look forward to the following concerts to keep your soul warm;

  • Winter jam 2023- the show will be at the Van Andel Arena on 19th January, featuring We The Kingdom, Jeremy Camp, and Disciple, among others.

Other concerts include Pops Knockout With Caroline Campbell on January 21st and Domestic Problems with Knee Deep Shag on January 7th.
